Pratt GradComD

The Pratt Graduate Communications Design department wanted to express its core qualities to prospective students, and Level Group was asked to lead that effort. From design to moderating and transcribing filmed panel discussions, original photography and writing, Level created an award-winning book that represents the excellence of Pratt Institute's GradComD Program, as well as helping to shape how the department would be represented to future applicants.

I cannot thank you enough for what is a jewel of an outcome. I am certain that the publication will engage a broad range of readers; and so it should! IN DIALOGUE

Dialogue is central to a GradComD student’s education and thus it is the central concept around which this publication was constructed. The book reflects how — as designers — we are constantly engaged in multiple dialogues with ourselves, our community, and our work. We do not work alone, but are influenced by our experiences, collaborators, classmates, and audiences. The book structure itself reflects the idea of a dialogue or conversation through “visual dialogue pages” of image juxtapositions, overhead process images of people collaborating, and a change in book orientation for the roundtable’s. 

 

The book itself reflects dialogue visually in "visual dialogue pages" of image juxtapositions, overhead process images of people collaborating, a turning of the book orientation to read and experience the "Roundtable's," and a gradient that spans the entire breadth of the book from front to back, and that organizes the sequence in terms of color. The theme of "dialogue" is initiated by a single “open” quotation mark on the front cover; the book closes with a “closed” quotation mark on the back cover. This book is the second, limited edition publication of its kind produced by Pratt Institute's Graduate Communications Design Department. The book provides an alternative to the typical design school catalog; more student-oriented, more personal, and therefore more indicative of the GradComD environment and experience.
