Sunbury Textiles has been an industry leader in the design and manufacture of decorative jacquard fabrics for over sixty years. With a design center in New York and a mill in Pennsylvania, Sunbury remains at the cutting edge of textile design. Level was asked to create a new brand identity that would not only reference Sunbury's rich design and manufacturing past, but represent the company as it looks towards its future as well.

Our work with Level Group involved rebranding our company and our product line, while in the midst of our office moving from a brick townhouse in SoHo to a modern, sleek office in Chelsea. The Level Group team directed us through the process not just from a visual perspective but also from a "story telling" viewpoint, guiding us from where we "were" to where we saw ourselves in the future. It was their intuitive ability to capture our new image in a logo as well as designing a more modern approach to our collateral marketing that has created a successful transition for our company.

At Sunbury, each season brings a new collection with new designs and styles, and the new visual identity had to represent all seasons — both past and future. To solve this we looked to the DNA of textiles and weaving itself. The mark we developed is an abstract representation of weaving that suggests the limitless ways in which threads can come together to create pattern. This is also a reference to Sunbury's own design process.

Because the textiles that Sunbury creates are incredibly varied in terms of design, texture, and use of color, we felt it was important to establish a neutral color palette that would always complement, and never compete, with their designs.

In the stationary system, the logo is printed using silver foil blocking. The system includes business card, letterhead, envelope, note card, and announcement.

Sunbury has nine different collections, including
Beyond Black, Black, Home, Contract, Contract Couture, Sunbrella, Sunbrella Now, Sunbrella Capsule, and Nanotex aSure. In the past, each collection had its own look. The result was confusing from a brand recognition perspective. Part of our work was to create a coherent system for all of the Selvedge Tags and used to identify the collections that gave each individuality within a larger system.

To accomplish this we established a color gradient for the Selvedge Tags from black down to the lightest gray value. Because "Beyond Black" is the most exclusive of the collections, its Tag uses silver foil blocking.
